Pre-Registration

We’d like to give as many people as want to the chance to participate in the events. In order to get an idea of the number of participants we’ll have and to give people the chance to reserve at least one event they’d like to compete in, we’ll be taking pre-registration submissions. Here’s how it’ll work – submit your choices of events and rank them based on the event you’d most like to participate. For instance, I might submit my choices as (1) GPS Figure Skating, (2) Ammo Can Toss, (3)ROT13 Decryption.

As long as there are enough slots, we’ll try to accommodate all your choices. The earlier you submit your choices, the more likely you’ll receive your first choice. If there are any slots left, you can register the day of the event.

Pre-registration will be open from May 5 through May 31. Submit your choices to ggageoolympics@gmail.com. Remember to include your geo-nick and rank your submissions.

You will receive a confirmation that we’ve received your e-mail. However, if you have a spam blocker on your e-mail account, you may not receive the notification. Once pre-registration is closed, you will receive an e-mail with the events you’re slotted for. You can then pick up your registration packet on the day of the event during the Registration time.

The Rules

These rules may change slightly as we tweak details, so check back every so often.

Ammo Can Toss – see who can toss an ammo can the farthest
1) Each contestant has two chances to throw a .30 cal ammo can – ammo can will be provided. Best toss is used.
2) The “field” will be marked off in 5-yard intervals for easier measuring. Each throw will be measured once the ammo can has come to a complete stop.
3) Each contestant must stand behind a pre-determined line. Anyone who crosses the line will be disqualified.
4) Throw MUST be done underhanded. NO WINDUPS ALLOWED. Any deviation (even a mimic in jest) will be an immediate disqualification.

Nano Log Roll – roll up a nano log and get it into the nano container.
1) Each contestant will be supplied with a nano container (closed) and a nano log (unrolled / flattened).
2) At the start signal, the contestants must successfully roll up his/her log, get the log into the nano container and completely close the nano cache.

GPS Figure “Skating” – each contestant has 5 minutes to create a figure on their track log. Judges determine winner.
1) Each contestant will use their own GPS. Track log must be cleared before event starts.
2) A figure / number / symbol will be announced or posted 5 minutes before the event starts. Contestants will use this time to study the figure / number / symbol; pick their spot on the designated playing field; clear their track log.
3) At the signal, contestants can start “skating”. They may clear their track as many times as they wish, but at the end of 5 minutes, they must stop and whatever is on their screen at that time will be what’s judged.
4) Any interference with another contestant will result in disqualification.
5) Anyone who moves after the time has been called will be disqualified.
6) Judges will grade the figures based on accuracy of figure; smoothness of line / curve; how completely the figure fills the screen

Multi-“Cache” Run – a 5-stage run where each contestant must correctly enter the next stage in their GPS. All coordinates must be correctly stored and named in the GPS in order to win.
1) Contestants line up a the designated starting line.
2) 5 sets of coordinates, each with a “name” (i.e., STAGE01), will be posted along a course. Since each “stage” will be visible, the object will be to enter the name and coordinates correctly and completely.
3) The first three contestants to cross the finish line AND have correct names and coordinates will win. Depending on the number of contestants, this event may be run with a number of heats - see rules for the Skirtlifter Dash.
4) If anyone in the first three does not have correct names and coordinates, they forfeit.

ROT13 Decryption – decrypt a ROT13 encrypted paragraph without the aid of the key.
1) Contestants will be supplied with a single sheet of paper with the encrypted paragraph and enough blank space to write in the solution.
2) The solution can be written directly above each line or below the paragraph.
3) Contestants cannot use the key – either bringing it with them or writing it down from memory. Any indication that the key was written down will result in disqualification.
4) Solution must be done in ink.
5) Contestant must signal completion by raising his/her hand. Judges will note places for each contestant.
6) Decryption must be 100% accurate to qualify for a win.

Skirtlifter Dash – run to the skirt, lift it, find micro, sign and date log, return micro and skirt, run back.
1) Dashes will be done in batches or heats. Winner of each heat will run in a final heat.
2) Contestant must date and sign the micro log with the name "lifterxx" where "xx" is the contestant's number (no abbreviations, stamps, or stickers).
3) Log must be returned to container and container must be returned to its place under the skirt.
4) Top three in the final heat will win. However, if the date or signature is incorrect, contestant will be disqualified.
